On Saturday 06 May 2017 our trusted team of 12 heroes were early to rise in preparation for tackling the gruelling 10.5 mile Tough Mudder course. The daylong event in Culden Faw was filled with 24 often breath taking obstacles, forcing each member of our team to brave 9 foot deep skips of ice cold water, scale a quarter pipe over 15 foot high and face running a gauntlet of dangling wires each pulsing with 10,000 volts.
If this wasn’t daring enough the team were also challenged with wading through mud up to their thighs. For some of the team who stand at only 5 foot nothing, coming out clean was not an option!!!!!!
So why did everyone agree to such a task? It’s simple, the challenges faced on a daily basis by those affected through brain injury puts a course like this into perspective.
It was decided in October 2016 that Photofile would organise a fundraiser to support our two chosen divisions of Headway; South West London and Salisbury & South Wiltshire. Due to the nature of work Photofile’s team witness in their daily assistance to the legal sector, every member has become extremely passionate about supporting these particular charities. It seemed only fitting that whatever challenge was embarked upon, should draw us out of our comfort zones and encourage us to find our strengths. It was at this point that the Tough Mudder tickets were purchased and with an enticing challenge in place to raise awareness for such a fantastic cause, support was immediately forthcoming. Within weeks our team was formed and training began.
The Tough Mudder challenge has proven a triumphant start to our #heartsforheadway campaign but our efforts will not stop there. There is so much more work that can be done and so many more people affected by brain injury that can be reached.
Every penny raised throughout our ongoing campaign is split equally between the two divisions of Headway and is vital in helping them continue to provide their services; peer support groups, family support, young people’s work and promoting understanding of all aspects of brain injury.
A huge thank you goes out to all that have supported and donated so far – you are helping make a difference. To date we have raised an outstanding £3,142.00 and we are committed to keep going.
